hitting

How have you guys been handling hitting behavior? My LO has really taken to hitting my face for some reason. I'm pretty skilled at not giving a big reaction and I've been saying "gentle" and redirecting him...but he keeps on doing it. He smiles when he does it. He thinks it is funny. Me...not so much. I'm well versed in what to do with older toddlers, but at this age...not as skilled.
