Why do they induce all the girls on 16 & Prego

I don't get why the 16 and Preggers go into their 39/40 week visit and get scheduled for induction.  I went with midwives, and they were going to have me be at least 12 days late before they would even talk about induction.  It seems really stupid to me, especially if the girl is having a normal pregnancy.  Is it because they are so young?
