MY UO is that I believe unemployment is for to tide you through until you can find a job. It's not "you deserve a break for working so hard, sit here until it runs out" money.

There was a post on Working Moms about unemployment and advice from some posters was "Well, you don't have to apply for jobs that you are qualified for to recieve benefits. Why don't you stay home and enjoy DC for a while?"

There is also a lady in my office who was complaining because her husband just lost his unemployment and won't start looking for a job. He's been unemployed for two years and hasn't looked for a job (by her admission) the entire time. I really have a hard time feeling sorry for her.

I don't think that everyone is taking advantage of unemployment, and I agree that it is a real need for families who have lost jobs or been laid off, but some people drive me up the wall.
