When did you start introducing milk to baby?

I know, how dare I ask a legitmate question?

Our pedi said we shouldn't introduce milk until one year. Daycare prefers that they are on whole milk by a year and taking it out of a sippy.

I'm looking for a happy medium.

At what age did you first start to introduce milk and/or started lessening the amount of formula per day? And, about how long did it take to switch over to milk completely if you have reached that point yet?
