ear piercing on boys

I know the ear piercing debate has been done to death,but i have to ask how you ladies feel about getting your DS ears pierced!

I know a couple( wouldn't exactly call them friends) who have a DD about 4 months old or so. They decided to get her ears pierced. No problem, its their DD, their choice.

Well after they had it done, their 4-5 year old son saw it and (they say) asked to get his done, so they did. SO my question is, would you give this the side eye? Is a 4-5 year old old enough to deicde this?
