Big Boy Bed question

Evan has been doing AWESOME - I'm so proud of him! He always waits for me to come and get him - not once getting out of bed until I open the door. But - at about midnight/1am he has wiggled himself down off the foot of his bed and is sleeping on the crib mattress we have there. Last night he was sleeping kneeling on the crib mattress with his head on his bed...it was SO funny.

Should I put a bed rail on the foot of his bed? I will need to buy one anyway, because when he sleeps in the cabin on our trip - the bed is up a lot higher. Or do you think he will eventually get that he needs to be more aware of where he's sleeping and may correct things himself?

I have been sneaking in and putting him back up on his bed before I go to bed.
