First let me say that it makes me sick to think these parents have lost their son.  I hope they find peace and I have nothing but sympathy for them.  I'm sure they are not bad people, but I see this as an error in judgement on their part.

In my opinion, when you allow your child who has not developed full control of his motor skills or hormonal surges to participate in what amounts to a high speed chase on two wheels with nothing to protect them but some Kevlar and plastic you can't be too shocked when something bad happens.  

It's heart wrentching, it's sad, but IMO it was avoidable.

I realize that all sports come with some sort of inherent risk, but if you don't see a diff in the amount of risk between say soccer and motorcycle racing then I'm surprised you made it this far in life.

I am also probably bias because my sister and husband deal with these situations all the time.
