Gah! Father's day gift

DH is one of those people that always has a wish list of stuff that he wants, so he's usually easy to shop for. For Father's day, he's asked for a tool (for building his jeep). But it's a really expensive tool, costing about twice what he spent on my Mother's day present, but more to the point, it has nothing to do with LO or him being a father. I don't think it's an appropriate present for father's day. Period. It's father's day, DH, you didn't just win the lottery! I've tried to discuss this with him, and his rationale is that he "needs" this tool and if I don't get it for him, he'll just go buy it himself eventually anyway.

So what do I do? Buy him a meaningless, expensive gift for father's day and call it a day? Or get him something else, that he'll be disappointed about, and he'll just go buy his dumb tool anyway?
