Eye turns out

For the past couple months, I've been noticing my LO's eye will sometimes turn out when he is tired, when his face is down and looks up, or when he is focusing on something far away.  This doesn't not happen all the time, but enough to notice  and I made an eye dr appt next week.   When he is focused on an object or looking directly at people his eyes are fine.  Also, you can't notice in pictures.  We have a family member that is an eye dr and she noticed it as well and said it is prob weak eye muscle.   This has only recently started to happen...it has not been since birth.    Anyone else experience this?
