have you ever had to change your lo's diaper when they are exhausted/losing it?

I feel like this has been happening so much lately and I try so hard to avoid it, but he has been pooing right before nap time and sometimes just taking one nap and then getting sleepy for the night super early on those nights.  I would love to do the diaper change earlier to avoid it, but I can't anticipate when he will want to sleep.  Do you have any tips for dealing with a lo who is losing it/exhausted/crawling away when you try to chagne their diaper??
