We live in the pine bush (just west of Albany), and my DH has actually had several ticks from hiking locally - but I'm just sad that this happened apparently in our backyard
Yesterday my DD (18months) woke up from her nap and I went to put socks on her. She had a piece of 'dirt' almost between her toes (big toe/next toe) and I scratched at it and it didn't move. Like barely the size of a poppyseed.. and I knew right away.
Fortunately DH was home so I could hold DD's foot still and distract her, and he pulled it right of. It is the smallest tick either of us has ever seen, but that was a good thing (hadn't been on long - pulled it off so easily).
So... we'll just have to be very vigilant. I heard this year is a bad year with ticks. I am sad that I thought we were safe in our backyard
