NBR-Asking for a bigger raise.

I once worked for a large, well known bank. Well, my department was bought out by a Canadian technologies company. I've worked in this same department for about 4 years. The past two raises (given yearly) were under the new company. Well, they sucked. Like, .24 cents sucked. Raises are based on merit, which they should be. I don't think my teeny tiny .24 cent raise was because I'm awful at my job, because I was rated "Exceeded Expectations" on my review. (which is the highest you can get)

So, raises are about to be given. I don't know how much I will be given, but it *probably* won't be much.  I have taken on quite a bit more work load this year, and have been commended  by my supervisors for my work as well.

My question is, how do I tactfully ask for more if they offer a measly .24 cents like last year? Don't get me wrong, I am completely grateful to have a job. I just feel as though I'm not being fully compensated for the work that I do. Advice?

(PS, raises are approved by my bosses boss)
