sandbox question

I want to get a covered  sandbox for the kids, ages  3.5   and 1 year old.

 I don't have any grassy area to put the sandbox, so it would be placed in my enclosed courtyard.  The courtyard is a fully tiled ared outdoor area. 

The courtyard is also where I put my 2 bulldogs during the day. 

My concerns are:  that sand will escape and make the courtyard messy.  It can also blow into the dogs face and eyes and irritate them,or get into their fur.

Also if I rinse away the sand into the drain, I am worried about plumbing problems.

 Is  getting  a sandbox a bad idea  ?
