Anyone not doing a first birthday party?

I'm not anti-party or anything, and in fact, DH and I were planning a casual get together with friends and the only family we have in the area, DH's cousin, husband and kids. Turns out Cousin will be out of town, and most the friends we've mentioned this to have plans for that day too. So we decided instead of having a pathetic birthday party with just three or four of our friends, that we'll just do something at home with the three of us. I feel like I'm failing my kid - we can't even scrape up enough people for a decent party. At least LO won't know the difference.
