Environmental allergies in LOs

Stella has had a dry cough for a while now.  Just a cough that comes and goes every few days or so.  And sometimes she sounds a little horse, mainly when she wakes up.  I mentioned it to day care today that her cough was back and the teacher said that when they go outside her nose gets runny, too.  We run her humidifier at night. 

Has anyone dealt with allergies with their LO?  I want to call the pedi but I'm not exactly sure how they determine if it's allergies or just a cold at this age.  I have bad allergies, too so I know it's a possibility for Stella.
