Gag reflex--anyone else?

I keep seeing all of these 6, 7, and 8mos old moving right along with eating solids. DS will be 9mos next week, and we're still struggling with anything more than a puree thickened with cereal. We've tried puffs, mum mums, frozen-dried yogurt, ripe bananas in a mesh feeder or as-is, chopped fruit (raspberries and blueberries) in his yogurt. He always looks tormented, gags and drools like crazy; he has vomited only once though.... I feel like I'm torturing the kid. Obviously I'll talk with the pedi at our 9mos appt, but just curious who else is going through this? Any encouragement or other suggestions?
