s/o post- Vera bags and scotch guard?

the night and day pattern will show dirt pretty easily, i've washed my hipster about 3 times over the winter.  i probably whouldn't have bought the quick draw in that pattern but i couldn't tell DH that. so now i want to try and protect it. some people have suggested scotch guarding it. i've never done that to anything, any tips tricks, product raves?
