Help...we have ants

BLAH!!! Never had them in my house before. How do I get rid of them? I don't want to put poison down with B running around. We dug up our gardens out front and put down dirt so I'm not sure if that stirred up a nest or something? This is our 7th year in this house and I have never seen a single ant in the house. But they are all over, hundreds of them. I've been steaming them with the hand steamer. I just searched the entire house and vacuumed to make sure there is no food crumbs and such to attract them. I know they are harmless...but it creeps me out. Think I should call an exterminator?
