labial adhesion in toddlers

Anyone have any experience with this?  I was told at Abby's 18th month appointment yesterday that she has this.  Apparently her inner labia is fusing together.  I was told to try and open it by rubbing it with a q-tip covered in Vaseline.  Unfortunately Abby hates this and fights it.  I know I'm not doing a very good job at separating it.  The nurse practitioner that she saw was very rushed(kept telling me how busy they were) and didn't really answer my questions.  I called the nurse line and got a few answers but no tricks in how to make this easier on me and her.  She will see her primary about this but not until May.

If you have dealt with this, any tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
