I really shouldn't be surprised...(vent)

So tonight is DD1's first ever school concert.  I am so over the moon excited for this first I can't stand it!  STBXH had told me weeks ago and even as recently as last week that he was going to come.  I was surprised he was so willing to be there for her, but happy for DD to have him there.

Then this morning we had to meet at the bank to resolve our overdrafts and close our joint account.  He tells me he isn't coming tonight because he doesn't have enough gas money (40 mile drive from his house to school).  I offer him gas money and he refuses. 

He's such a jerk!  I really shouldn't be surprised that he is doing this because money and sleeping (he works nights) have always been more important to him than being there for the kids events.  But really, what kind of 'parent' can just not be there for her first ever school concert?? Just.don't.get.it!
