XP: what to get DH for his bday?

i go through this EVERY year- I try to listen for him to say , "I would like..." he never says that and when I ask him outright he's like, "send a check to the cc company..."

I've been racking my brain...and I'm not coming up with anything...I was thinking a hot tub cause he keep saying, "I think it would be cool to have one..." but is that really a birthday thing?

advice? have you seen anything that would make a cool gift?
