what the heck is up with my body?

TMI, I know, but I can't figure out what the heck is going on with me!

So, I had what I assumed was my period two weeks ago (6 weeks pp).  I had about 5 days of medium to heavy bleeding.  After it stopped there were about 5 days where I didn't have any bleeding at all, but then I started spotting again.  And then yesterday it seemed like I was starting my period again (medium to heavy bleeding - enough that I needed a tampon).  Today I am back to just spotting.  

So now I'm wondering if all of this nonsense is still just PP bleeding.  It just seems weird that it would stop completely and then come back in such full force and keep going on and off like this for so long.  Anyone have this happen to them with PP bleeding?  Do you think I should call my dr?   I don't know if there is anything they will really be able to tell me or if there is a way to actually know if it is PP bleeding or a period.
