I knew it would be hard, but this... VENT

DS arrived last Friday evening. Until Monday morning, he was taking the colostrum from the breast. We had a shake Saturday night, but the on-duty nurse really helped. He wasn't latching properly per se, but he was eating. All the nurses and the ped said he was getting the nutrition he needed, his color was good, etc.

Then the lactation consultant came on Monday before we were set to be discharged. She wanted me to show her how he was nursing. As he started, she said he wasn't latching right. She spent the next 40 minutes shoving his head into my breast. He screamed bloody murder. The entire time. After that, every time I tried to nurse him, he screamed bloody murder. The entire time we tried nursing.

Luckily, I have a pump, so I've been pumping. I went to the pediatrician on Wednesday and told her what happened. She gave me a La Leche volunteer/lactation specialist to call. I am waiting to hear from her. I've been pumping as much as I can, and he takes the milk, but not from my breast. Now he will at least play with my breast instead of screaming.

I expected latch issues, nipple pain, etc. While I've been able to pump a pretty good amount, I know it's not as good as nursing straight from the breast. I planned on EBF for at least 6 months. I am so frustrated!
