S/O paying for college- paying for first car

The college post got me thinking about my first car.  Did you pay for your first car or did your parents?  Also, who paid the car insurance?

My parents paid for half of my car insurance.  They made me get my own policy and I was responsible for half of the policy.  I had to buy my first car in full.  I bought it from my brother.  I had to pay for all repairs and gas for my car too.

When it comes time for my daughter to drive we are going to have her pay for half of her insurance and she will have to help pay for a car.  It won't be a brand new car unless I win the lotto.
