joint vs sole

Ladies with custody of any type.  I was wondering if you could tell me about joint vs sole custody.  I am under the understanding that in joint you have less of a say about what happens (50/50).  The BD is fighting me to have a part of the life which I am not opposed to I just want to be able to make major decisions on my own.  I am only 24 weeks pregnant and he treats me like im keeping him from our son already by not texting him.  Is it hard to get sole custody if he wants to be part of his life? What type of custody should I be requesting?  I have no clue where to even start since this whole breakup hit me like a truck.
