A stink question

My CDs smell fine coming out of the washer, and ditto for out of the dryer.  But, they REEK by the time I pull the liner out of the pail to wash (every other day).  It's a very strong ammonia smell that is overwhelming just from opening the lid to drop in a diaper.  We have WAHMies liners in a generic plastic trash can with flip-top lid.  We use GMD PFs and BG and HP pockets with mainly microfiber inserts and the occasional hemp insert.  What would be the best way to keep the stink somewhat in check?
