How do you respond re: poop in washer?

I'm expecting our first in May, and we plan on CDing.  At my shower this weekend, I was chatting with some of my female family members about this, as we got a cloth diaper as a gift from a friend who cloth diapers their 3 kids and has for 2+ years.  They were totally grossed out by the idea of throwing the newborn pooped-in diapers right into the washer - "that's so unsanitary!"  "I can't imagine washing my other clothes in there after that!"  Etc, etc.  I wasn't sure how to respond, as I've never done this before.  How would you respond to these comments?
