ASD & Behavioral Therapy?

We were just told on Wednesday that our son has autism. She did say it was a mild case of it as well. She suggested that we bring in a behavioral therapist, but, what exactly does a behavioral therapist do?

I'm hoping some of you other mommies out there have some explantions on this. He turned 3 in October. He's in a small setting for preschool.

Is there anything we could be doing differently at home now that we know that he has this? Or should we continue as before? We were doing "time outs", in which we don't think he just "got it".

Any help or any information you can give would be amazing, ladies.
