New to CDing

My DH and I are planning to start CDing our daughter. We want to start soon and eventually CD our next child from the beginning.

We've looked at every kind and we like the idea of pockets but I am also interested in prefolds/covers. I am DDs main caretaker so he doesn't really mind. 

I've read the FAQ and it was very helpful deciding what interested us. But I'm not entirely sure how to go about starting. I would like to quickly transition to FT CDing but I've been told not to buy all one type because it might not work.

Any suggestions on how to get started would be great.
