Random pronunciation question

How do you say pedi? As in pediatrician.

I've always said pedd-y in my head (like short for pedicure). It never occurred to me to say it like the beginning of pediatrician until a nurse asked us who our peed-y was the other day.

Peed-y makes a hell of a lot more sense, but I think I'm still going to say pedd-y in my head.
