Antibiotics question

Sorry to be a PW this morning, but this being sick stuff is new to us. H had pink eye last week and the pedi put her on antibiotics as a precaution. She gave us some samples and told us to give the meds to her for 10 days. We ran out today on day 8. Does she really need to take the antibiotics for a full 10 days, especially if she was put on them as a precaution? I don't mind filling the prescription, but I don't want to deal with the hassle if it's not necessary.
