Introducing babies to pets?

What are everyone's plans for introducing babies to your pets?  Our vet recommended bringing something home with the babie's scent on it before bringing the babies themselves home.  We've also been trying to let our pets know that they're not welcome in the nursery and have been trying not to let them sit on our laps as often as we normally would.

 

Any other suggestions?  We have 2 dogs (a jack russell, a chihuahua) and 2 cats.
