Breast feeding question for working moms!

I plan on working at least part time probably 2-3 months after the baby is born. I was planning to pump ahead of time so that he can have breast milk while I am at work. Someone told me today that might be difficult, that I would probably have to pump while at work or that it would be painful, and it is time consuming to make enough to keep baby fed. I am totally naive to this as this is my first child and haven't paid much attention to what people I know have done, but I am wondering how this works. Were you able to pump enough for baby to feed while at work? Did you have to pump while on shift? Did you supplement with formula? Thanks...
