About to pull my hair out NBR help please

I am working on a cake and normally I use pre packaged rolled fondant, but in order to cut costs I tried marshmellow fondant this time. I managed to get the cake covered after some difficulty but I am seriously having trouble rolling out the 2nd batch for decorations. It was too sticky so I added some crisco and now that it isn't sticky anymore I am trying to roll it and as soon as I pick up the pin I notice there are tears in the fondant. It never looks smooth like rolled fondant and I am really quite irritated. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I know we don't have a lot of bakers on the board but if any can help I am willing to try.
