Looking for shower opinions!

My friends who are planning my baby shower have suggested the idea that they ask all guests to bring either diapers of any size or baby wipes just, as, like, a coming to the party bonus thing for the mom.  I would also be registered at a couple places.  I have been to two other baby showers where this was done and in both situations, they were young single moms that I worked with at my old restaurant job.  These women were in serious need, and I never questioned it.

For me, though, I'm married and my husband and I both work full-time.  We are pretty broke, don't get me wrong, and would love some gifted diapers, but it feels wrong, almost like asking for charity.  What do you guys think - is it trashy or is this a semi-normal thing?
