Protein - what's the big deal?

Now that people know I'm pregnant I've gotten several questions about whether or not I'm getting enough protein.  Some have gone so far as to ask me if I'm eating meat.  I've been vegetarian for 20 years; no, I'm not eating meat.  I also made sure when I picked an OB that she was cool with me being veggie.

I've been at this a long time; I'm super healthy and have never had any health problems because of my choice to exclude meat (including fish).

So what am I missing?  Is there some recommendation out there for how much protein us pregnant ladies are supposed to get?  If there is, are any of you actually tracking that?
