Crane Humidifier?

Does anyone else have one? I had heard good things so that's what we have for LO's room..Turned it on for the first time tonight and it totally soaked the ground below it! Directions say not to put on wood, so we put it on top of a diaper case, on top of the area rug. The steam path seems to initially shoot up but not with much force, so it falls quickly. Just came in to feed LO and her soft faux fur rug is like sopping wet! Is mine defective or does this thing just suck?
