Severe short-lasting cramping

I'm new to this board and wanted to hear other's experiences with cramping during the first trimester. I'm about 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and having intense, short-lasting (about 15-20 minutes) cramps two to three times a day. The cramping began about a week ago and was very mild-- felt like regular menstrual cramps, but each day it's become more intense. I'm going to call my OB tomorrow, but since I'm getting more and more concerned, I wanted to know if others experienced anything like this. Thanks!
