Changing back to milk based formula..

LO is on Alimentum because of a milk allergy. The DR said that every 3 months we have to switch him back to a milk based formula to check the allergy. She says most babies grow out of it. So starting Monday, we'll be trying it out. I'm extremely nervous! He used to act like he was in pain after eating... I hope we don't have to go through that this go around! Plus, it'd be nice if he could use regular formula since this junk we're on is so expensive! Has anyone had a milk allergy and changed formulas at the 3 month mark and the allergy be gone!?
