hcg tripling in 48 hours?

Hi ladies, I'm 5 weeks pregnant (tomorrow) and had some spotting last week, so I went in for beta/hcg testing. My doctor said my numbers are "rising well," and when I asked her for the actual numbers, it turns out they're tripling in 48 hours.

At 14 dpo, it was 256, at 16 dpo it was 644, and at 18 dpo it was 1922. I Googled it (always a bad idea!) and I'm seeing that it could be normal, or multiples, or even a marker for Down Syndrome. I'm going in for an ultrasound on Friday, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had their numbers triple?
