No symptoms and no heartbeat

I am 9w 4d along (or so the doctors tell me). I have had no symptoms this entire time and last night I had my first doctor appointment. Not having symptoms has made me nervouse that something has gone wrong so I was hoping to have some closer last night and be able to hear the heartbeat. Well that didn't happen! The doctor was unable to hear the heartbeat and she told me it might be too early to hear it.

Well I was hoping for some reassurance, but now I'm still worried. Has this happened to anyone else? I have an ultrasound schedule for Friday, but I just need someone to tell me "yup this happened to me and everything was ok!" Thanks!
