Confused on how many weeks pregnant I am

Ok so I am obviously new to this. Everything says I am 5 weeks 2 days pregnant, but some sites are telling me I am in the 6th week of pregnancy. I understand that the first week you have your period could be considered the 1st week but there is so much going on in there and I want to be able to follow my baby's development - is he/she an appleseed with a growing heart or a sweet pea with arm and leg buds? My DH doesn't think it is important but I feel like I need to know!! Also what would I then tell my parents I am? 5 weeks or 6 weeks? Thanks for the feedback!
