2nd+ time moms who were overweight in previous pregnancies

Anyone here able to actually stay within recommended weight gain limits? I'm kicking myself for not losing more before I got pregnant, but every single person I know irl who got pregnant put on 50-60 lbs. They all told me it's no big deal and it happens, but they also didn't like that their doctors told them they needed to be more careful. So. Is it possible to actually gain the 15-25 lbs without being a psycho crazy person about your weight the whole time? Or is this just something I'm going to really have to stay on top of since I was overweight when I got pregnant?
