Scented Candles a problem?

DH heard somewhere that scented candles can cause infertility, so we haven't used any since Christmas.  Now that I am pregnant and can smell all kinds of nasty things, I want to begin lighting some.  He is now afraid that the candles will somehow harm our baby--since they can supposedly cause infertility, they must also poison unborn children!

 Anyone heard anything about this?  Do you use anything different than candles to keep your home smelling sweet?
