First ultrasound at 12 weeks

So my first appointment is a week from today and I'll be 6 weeks. The receptionist said its to confirm pregnancy, paperwork from blood test and that my first ultrasound will not be until 12-15 weeks. Isn't that late? I thought it would at least be 8 weeks or so.  

I know I shouldn't read too much into it since I haven't even spoke to the doctor yet, but it bummed me out some. 

 Anyone else not have a first ultrasound until 12 weeks??
