Cross Country Move :-/

I'm looking for some advice/experience related to this little pickle we're in.  My DH is getting transferred from Philadelphia to San Francisco this summer.  My EDD is June 11th and he has to report to his new job July 1st.   Right now, it seems that taking a week to drive cross country with our newborn is the best option, even if we do have to stop every 2-3 hours.  Flying is not a good option because of the recycled air and the baby not having enough immunity being that young.  The other option is taking the train with my sister but I worry about running out of diapers/wipes or if the baby does spike a fever having the get off the train in who knows where and trying to get to a hospital.  Also, taking the train across country would cost about $1,000 on top of all of our other moving expenses.    Any thoughts?
