Strange Gender Culture

One of the posts about room decoration based on gender got me thinking about weird gender things. Here's my weird boy story: my husband had no preference either way, but when we told his relatives in China they actually thanked me for *making* a boy... they are all educated people and they live in the city, but a boy is still such a big deal.  Not to mention that only a man can make a Y chromosome so I didn't have anything to do with him being a boy...

Any other weird gender stories?
