anyone a hairdresser/stylist/etc etc- question!

i have insanely curly hair. insanely.

when i get my hair trimmed (at someplace cheap like Hair Cuttery or Great Clips) i always straighten it first & have them cut it dry (because they never seem to know what they're doing)

well it's been over a year since my last trim & i haven't had my hair legit styled sine i was 14. yeah.

i'm going to a hair school tomorrow to let them have at it (students are supervised by a teacher)

question: should i straighten it & ask them to cut it dry or let them wet it & trust that they know what they're doing? is it easier to cut hair when it's wet? can i trust that i won't look like a poodle when they're done?
