How the heck are you trimming those nails?

C is either crazy-wiggly-mobile, or asleep. There is no in-between/quiet level where he can be entertained with a toy or even TV  for 2minutes while I trim the nails; he can't even be bothered with a diaper change without a melt down and trying to crawl away. And he has never liked filing. Since I work FT during the week, the only sleeping time I could possibly get the nails done is bedtime and I don't want to risk turning on a light in the nursery just to trim the nails, so they get really sharp during the week. What do you do to distract them or calm them long enough to get the job done?
