6-9 MO'er needs your 9-12 MO experience - Carseats

My Lo is now 23 lbs and 29 inches tall and needs to move out of his Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat.  I see that the convertibles is the way to go so he can still be backward now but then go front facing at one year.  I guess Britax and Evenflo are rated the best but seen expensive for needing 2 of them.  Any suggestions on specific models that you all love after switching? Or ones that you hate?

I just need something easy to get him in and out of, safe, easy to install and not HUGE. TIA ladies!
